Database Items

The master database provides a flexible hierarchy for managing data.

The top level of this hierarchical structure is the Model group. All other database items within the master database must be contained in a model group.

Database items can be version controlled or non-version controlled.

The names of version controlled items must be unique within a master database.

All other names must be unique within that type. For example, two database items of different types within a models group can have the same name, but two database items of the same type must have different names.

Tip

For users of InfoWorks, FloodWorks and InfoNet version 10.5 and earlier, it is worth mentioning that there are no type groups within Model Groups in InfoWorks ICM. However, there is nothing stopping you from creating a new Model Group and, for example, naming it 'SQL' and placing all your SQL queries in it. As it is possible to nest model groups within model groups, you can mimic type groups as in earlier versions.

Chapters on version controlled items are marked with a special icon while those for other objects are marked with the standard page icon .

Version controlled items

Version controlled items with local changes that have not yet been committed to the master database are displayed with a red symbol in the bottom right hand corner, for example .

Master group Can be used as the top level of the organisation. The Master group contains Model groups and Asset groups.

Model group

The Model group contains network data, associated event data and other relevant information. Model groups can be embedded in other model groups.

(When a Model group contains only one type of object, the Model group icon is modified slightly to reflect that single contained type.)

  • Results unavailable. There are no results available either locally or on the server. This may be because the simulation was carried out by a user on a different machine, or because the results have been deleted.
  • Results are not available but but the local queue contains a job for this simulation that has not yet been completed. Note that it is not possible to tell if there is a job for this simulation queued on another machine.
  • the simulation failed. The only results are in the log file and (optionally) the prn file, which will detail the reasons for failure.
  • the simulation completed successfully and full results are available.
  • the simulation completed, but with warnings, (for example a user threshold set in the Run Diagnostics was exceeded, or a depth exceeded the section height in a channel or river reach). Results are available.
  • the simulation was ended due to failure to meet convergence criteria. Simulation results are available up to the point of failure. (Convergence problems relate to the 1D engine. The 2D engine does not experience convergence problems as it uses an explicit solver).

Simulation status displayed is the status of results on the user's computer, which may be different from the status on other computers.

If simulation results are available both locally and on the server, the local status takes priority. If local results are deleted, the status of results on the server (if any) become visible.

  • Results are not available but but the local queue contains a job for this simulation that has not yet been completed.Note that it is not possible to tell if there is a job for this simulation queued on another machine.
  • the simulation failed. The only results are in the log file which will detail the reasons for failure.
  • the simulation completed successfully and full results are available.
