Sorting database objects
Objects can be sorted in the master database in the Explorer window or Model Group window in a number of ways. The sort options are:
- ID - Objects are sorted based on their internal ID. This will effectively sort them in the order they were created.
- object - Objects are sorted alphabetically by name.
- Type - Objects are sorted alphabetically using the contents of the Type column.
- User - Objects are sorted alphabetically using the contents of the User column.
- Description - Objects are sorted alphabetically using the contents of the Description column.
- Date - Objects are sorted by the date they were last changed. This date will not change if, for example, objects are copied to another database without being materially altered, even though they will have almost certainly have a different ID.
- Hyperlink - Objects are sorted alphabetically using the contents of the Hyperlink column.
- Role - Objects are sorted alphabetically using the contents of the Role column.
Sorting follows some simple rules:
- Groups within the model group are always grouped together by type before being sorted.
- Version controlled objects are sorted only at the top level. The tree structure of check-outs and branches below that level is not altered.
- Other objects within groups are sorted as normal.
To display the detail view showing all columns:
- Right-click an object in the tree and select Tools | Show details.
Objects will initially be sorted by the default sort column specified by the Administrator.
To choose the column on which to sort master database objects:

- Choose Tools | Sort By | [Option] from the context menu.
To enable objects in columns to be sorted by clicking the column header:
- From the context menu, select Tools | Sort columns.
