Event Editor
The Time Varying Data Editor is a grid based editor used for viewing and editing time series of observed values.
The grid can be sub-divided to represent more than one sub-event. Additional profiles can be added to represent data measured at different points in the network.
Many of the basic operations described in Editing Data in the Network Object Grid Window are valid for the Time Varying Data Editor. The editor also has some special characteristics to support editing events.
The Event Editor is opened when you right-click an event and select Open from the popup menu.
Use the Event Editor
The Event Editor grid can be sub-divided to represent more than one sub-event. Additional profiles can also be created to represent event data at different points in the system (different rainfall hyetographs for example).
The Time column shows the actual time for sub-events with a real start date and time. If you have left the start date and time as zero it shows the time relative to the start of the sub-event.
A sub-event is a single occurrence which can be isolated in time. At least one sub-event in each event is required. To create a new sub-event from the Event Editor:
- Either select Append Sub-Event from the Event menu or right-click and select Append Sub-Event from the pop-up menu.
- To define the start time and date, and the timestep between data values for the new event, right-click the sub-event heading and select Sub-Event Properties to display the Sub-Event Properties dialog.
This will add a new sub-event after any existing sub-events.
To insert a new sub-event before an existing one, do one of the following:
- Click at the far left of an existing sub-event header to highlight it, then select Insert Sub-Event (before) from the Event Grid menu.
- Right-click an existing sub-event header and choose Insert Sub-Event (before) from the popup menu.
A profile is a series of Time Varying Data values applicable to a particular monitoring point.
To add more profiles in the event grid editor, do one of the following:
- Select Append Profile from the Event menu.
- Right-click the sub-event and select Append Profile from the pop-up menu.
The new profile will always be added to the right of any existing profiles.
Note: The menu items described below will be disabled if any part of the grid is selected.
To edit sub-event properties do one of the following:
- Right-click anywhere in the sub-event and choose Sub-Event Properties from the popup menu
- Click in any data cell in the sub-event and choose Sub-Event Properties from the Event menu
This will display the appropriate Sub-Event Properties dialog for the current event.
To edit profile properties do one of the following:
- Right-click anywhere in the profile data and choose Profile Properties from the popup menu
- Click in any data cell in the profile and choose Profile Properties from the Event menu
The appropriate Profile Properties dialog for the correct sub-event in the current event is displayed.
Note: The menu item will be disabled if the header row of the grid or a sub-event is clicked on. Profile data can be different for each sub-event; a data cell must be clicked in order for InfoAsset Manager to determine which sub-event and profile is required.
An event profile consists of a series of data values at regular timesteps. Each row in the grid editor represents the data at any one timestep.
The Time column shows the actual time for sub-events with a real start date and time. If the sub-event start date and time have been left as zero it shows the time relative to the start of the sub-event.
To add timestep data to the end of the last sub-event, simply type new values into the blank cells at the bottom of the grid.
To add timestep data in the middle of a sub-event or for an earlier sub-event:
- Click on the grid on the row below which the timestep is to be added
- To insert a single timestep, right-click and select Insert Timestep (after). To insert several timesteps, right-click and select Insert Multiple Timesteps (after), then specify the number of timesteps to add.
- The time column will be adjusted for timesteps that have been moved. The new timesteps can now be edited.
By default, the interval between timesteps is 60 seconds. To change the timestep interval:
- Right-click on any data field in the sub-event and select Sub-Event Properties.
- Enter a new value for the Time Step(s) parameter and click OK.
For example, if you want each value in the profile to represent the data for 5 minutes, change the interval to 300 seconds.
The timestep is constant within each sub-event but different sub-events can have different timesteps.
Use the Copy and Paste menu items, or the CTRL-C and CTRL-V keyboard combinations, to do all copying and pasting, including complete sub-events and profiles.
To copy a block of data values within the Event Editor:
- Select the cells or timesteps to be copied.
- Either right-click and select Copy from the popup menu or select Copy from the Edit menu. CTRL-C on the keyboard can also be used.
- Click the data cell which is to be the top left-hand cell of the newly pasted data.
- Either right-click and select Paste from the popup menu or select Paste from the Edit menu. CTRL-V on the keyboard can also be used.
- If the data will not fit into the current grid, or some of the data on the clipboard is invalid, an error message will be displayed on the Paste Timestep Data dialog.
The paste operations cannot be undone. However, the event can be closed without saving any changes.
If entire timesteps are selected, InfoAsset Manager puts the time value on the clipboard as well as the data values. This gives additional information if data is pasted into an external package such as Microsoft Excel.
Timestep times and dates cannot be pasted directly back into the Event Editor grid because timestep values are set in the sub-event properties.
When pasting data back in to the grid, an error message will be displayed on the Paste Timestep Data dialog that data has been found on the clipboard that is not recognised as floating point values.
- To copy complete sub-events or profiles, the sub-events or profiles must be selected correctly.
- Select one or more profiles by clicking on the header cell of the profile. Select more than one profile by dragging with the mouse or using the CTRL or SHIFT keys.
- Select one or more sub-events by clicking on the left hand end of the header row of the sub-event. Select additional sub-events by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on more headers.
- Select the entire grid by clicking the top left cell. This selects all profiles and all sub-events.
- Either right click and select Copy from the popup menu or select Copy from the Edit menu. CTRL-C on the keyboard can also be used.
InfoAsset Manager copies the data onto the clipboard in more than one format. The cell data is copied in a format that can be read in other packages, such as Microsoft Excel, as well as InfoAsset Manager. If the selection of data includes timesteps, these are also copied to the clipboard.
Profile or Sub-Event data is also copied in a format specific to InfoAsset Manager. This format includes the underlying sub-event and profile properties, and allows complete profiles and sub-events to be pasted into the current event, or other events of the correct type.
When pasting data back into the grid, the Select Data to Paste dialog will be displayed giving the option to paste individual data points, complete profiles or complete sub-events.
To remove sub-events or profiles from an event in the Event Editor:
- Click at the far left of the sub-event heading or the top of the profile column. This will select the entire sub-event or profile.
- Either select Delete from the Edit menu, right-click and select Delete from the popup menu, or press the Delete key.
- The option to complete the deletion or cancel the operation is displayed.
