Reserved Node Names

Reserved node names can be set up for use as the  US Node ID and/or DS Node ID of unconnected pipes.

There are two types of reserved node name: names for Unknown Nodes and Special Node Names. They are defined on the Reserved nodes tab of the Name Generation dialog.

Unknown Nodes

Names for Unknown Nodes are used for the US Node ID / DS Node ID of pipes for which the upstream / downstream manhole is not known. For example, a manhole survey may record the presence of outgoing pipes but without a reference to the location of the other end of the pipe.

Inference can be carried out to merge opposing unknown ends of unconnected pipes that are in close proximity of one another. Only unconnected ends of pipes with an US Node ID / DS Node ID using an Unknown Nodes name will be considered for merging during the inference process.

User defined names can be added for Unknown Nodes, however "Unknown" is always a reserved name and will be used as the default US Node ID / DS Node ID of unconnected pipes.

Special Node Names

Special Node Names can be used in cases where a pipe ends at a special feature, for example, a house or private land.

If a pipe US Node ID or DS Node ID is a special node name, these fields will pass validation even though a node object of that name does not exist.

Note title

It is possible to add a node with an ID that has been defined as a reserved node name. If a validation object is associated with the network (and the appropriate rule is switched on), a validation error will be displayed to warn that the node ID is a reserved node name. If you do not change the node ID and click OK or Apply, all links with a corresponding US Node ID / DS Node ID will be connected to the new node.
