Regulators
Regulators are structures in the InfoWorks and SWMM networks that are controlled by rules based on conditions. The conditions are dependent on measurements such as flow or depth within the network. The purpose of the regulator is to maintain a specific target value for some variable (for example flow or depth); in InfoWorks networks, this value is called a setpoint.
The following types of regulator can be represented in an InfoWorks network:
Name |
Regulated variable |
---|---|
All pumps |
On - off |
Blockage |
Proportion blocked |
Bridge blockage |
Proportion blocked |
Variable speed pump |
Discharge (m3/s) |
Variable frequency drive pump |
Speed (rpm) |
Variable limiting discharge orifice |
Maximum discharge (m3/s) |
Variable crest weir |
Crest level (m AD) |
Variable width weir |
Width (m) |
Gated weir | Gate height (m) |
Variable height gate (sluice gate or penstock) |
Vertical opening (m) |
Variable radial sluice | Opening (degrees) |
To define a weir, orifice or sluice gate as a regulator a Variable option must be selected from the Link Type drop-down list.
The following types of regulator can be represented in an SWMM network:
Name |
Regulated variable |
---|---|
Pump | On/off status, and pump speed |
Orifice | Opening size |
Weir | Crest level |
Outlet | Flow |
These can also be controlled using a control rule.
The regulator structures are defined as ancillary controls in both types of network.
