Importing from CSV Files

Network data can be imported from CSV filesComma Separated Variable file format is a standard file format that can be imported and exported by many software packages. Many types of data can be imported and exported using csv format by InfoWorks ICM.. Existing network objects can be updated or deleted and new objects can be added.

The files have to be in an appropriate format and may need specific filenames. Further details on format requirements can be found in CSV File Formats.

To import network data from CSV files:

  1. Open the network to be updated
  2. Select Import | Update from CSV files from the Network menu. This displays the Import / Update from CSV Data Dialog.
  3. Choose the appropriate options from the dialog. See the Import / Update from CSV Data Dialog topic for details.
  4. Click OK to continue. This displays a standard Windows File Dialog
  5. Choose one or more CSV files to import and click on Open when ready. The next thing that happens is the same standard Windows File Dialog is displayed to give the opportunity to add more files to the import. This means files from different directories can be selected. Continue choosing files and clicking Open until files for import have been selected. To continue with import, click Cancel on the file dialog.
  6. During import, system type will be checked against both default names and user defined names. If an unknown type is encountered, the type for the imported object will be set to Other.
  7. Finally, a report is displayed, listing the results of the import.
