Upstream / Downstream Network Trace
The Upstream Network Trace and Downstream Network Trace tools allow you to trace from any node or link in the network to
the upstream / downstream extents of the network. The trace assumes that
the network connectivity (pipe direction) is correct. The tool simply
traces all possible upstream / downstream paths from the selected starting
point. If the trace stops before reaching the extent of the network, then
- The next link may be reversed. You can use the Link Reversing Tool () of the Selection toolbar to correct the direction. See Reversing Selected Links.
- The link where the trace stops may not be connected.
To carry out a trace:
- Click on the (for upstream trace) on the More GeoPlan Tools Toolbar or the (for downstream trace) button on the GeoPlan Tools Toolbar, or select Tracing tools | Downstream trace mode or Tracing tools | Upstream trace mode from the GeoPlan menu.
- Click on any node or link. If there is more than possible path from a node, you will be asked choose which link you want to trace the extends of.
Alternatively, select a link
When using a trace tool, you can carry out a trace in the opposite direction by clicking the button and then holding down the ctrl key while clicking on a node or link. For example, the combination of the upstream trace tool and the CTRL key will result in a downstream trace being performed.
