Adding new hyperlinks
You can add hyperlinks to database items or network objects.
You can add hyperlinks to database items whether or not they are checked in. These hyperlinks are carried across to the new version when you check in a database item and then check out a new version. You can only add hyperlinks to network objects in a checked out network.
To add new hyperlinks:
- Open the property sheet of the object that has hyperlinks:
- For database items, right-click the item in the Explorer window or Model Group window, then choose Properties.
- For network objects, double-click the node or link.
- Go to the Hyperlinks page on the property sheet.
- Add hyperlinks in any of the following ways:
- Click just below the last entry in the hyperlinks list (if any). The Name and Filename or URL boxes must now be blank. Use the Browse button to find and select the item to be linked to, then click Open.
- Right-click in the hyperlinks list and choose Insert. Use the Browse button to find and select the item to be linked to, then click Open.
- Drag and drop links from Windows Explorer / File Explorer or a web browser (see below).
- To save the hyperlinks, click OK
About dragging and dropping to add hyperlinks
To add new hyperlinks using drag and drop, you need to have Windows Explorer / File Explorer or your web browser open at the same time as InfoWorks WS Pro. You also need to open the appropriate property sheet at the Hyperlinks page in advance.
Using drag and drop you can:
- Drag files from Windows Explorer / File Explorer. The name given will be the same as the file path, so you will probably want to edit it in the Name box above the grid.
- Drag HTML hyperlinks from an intranet page or web page. The name given will be the text of the hyperlink.
- Drag web page addresses by clicking the icon at the left of the address bar and dragging that across. The name given will be the title of the page.
- Drag favourites from the Favourites menu or Favourites window in Internet Explorer. This cannot be done with bookmarks in Netscape.
- Drag links from a page in the InfoWorks WS Pro help file. When opened, this page will display in your normal web browser and not the usual help window.
