3D view window
The 3D view window allows you to view the ground surface of a network that has a ground model loaded on its GeoPlan window. Each 3D view window is centred on a particular point. You can move your viewpoint around this centre point by:
- raising or lowering the viewpoint
- rotating around the centre point
- moving closer or further from the centre point.
The view displays what would be seen by a person at the viewpoint, looking towards the centre point.
Each 3D view is based on the current state of the GeoPlan window. When you create a 3D view, it is centred on the centre point of the GeoPlan, and it is clipped, or trimmed, to the current extents of the GeoPlan.
What you see when you create the 3D view will be very similar to what is shown on the GeoPlan, as the starting viewpoint is always vertically above the centre point. No matter how you move the viewpoint, you will not be able to see anything beyond the extents of the GeoPlan on which the 3D view was based.
Trimming the 3D view in this way makes drawing the view more efficient. If you zoom right out on the GeoPlan before creating the 3D view, you will be able to see the entire ground model, but moving around may be slow. Zooming in on a smaller area first will allow you to view that area quickly and easily.
Once you have created a 3D view, its extents will remain the same, even if you subsequently adjust the extents of the GeoPlan window.
You can display background layers such as a map or aerial photo and themes on the 3D view. You must load layers and set up themes on the GeoPlan window prior to creating the 3D view. The 3D view window will then display all the layers and themes from the GeoPlan.
The icons on the 3D Navigation toolbar allow you to move around the 3D view window.
You can change display properties of the view using the 3D View Properties dialog. Open this dialog by right-clicking the view and choosing Properties from the context menu.
