Joining and Connecting Selected Properties with Pipes
The Join Selected Properties with Pipes tool can be used to automatically associate properties with the nearest pipe within a user defined search radius of the property. Connection pipes and connection nodes can also be created between properties and associated pipes.
To join properties with pipes:
- Select the properties to be associated with pipes
- Choose Join/connect | Join selected properties with pipes from the Selection menu. The Join Properties to Pipes Dialog is displayed.
- From the Join/Connect Properties to Pipes Dialog
- Enter a Max distance to pipe. Only pipes within the search radius distance of the property will be considered for joining with the property.
- Check the Only join to selected pipes box, to restrict the pipes to which properties may be joined, to the current selection.
- For collection networks, check the Create connection pipes and connection nodes box to connect each selected property to its associated pipe. A connection node is created as a lateral node on the pipe associated with the property. A connection pipe is created between the property and the new connection node.
- For collection networks, tick the relevant check box(es) in the Sanitary System Types and Storm System Types sections to indicate which of the pipe system types present in the network are to be considered as part of the sanitary system and which are to be considered as part of the storm system.
- A summary is displayed containing details of the number of successful associations of properties to pipes, number of properties already associated to pipes, number of failures and reason for failures.
Selected properties will not be associated with a pipe if:
- The property is already associated with a pipe
- More than one suitable pipe is found within the property
- The nearest (selected) pipe is outside of the defined Max distance to pipe
Implicit association rules are the following:
- A pipe within (or touching) a property is preferred for association with this property to a pipe located outside the property.
- If two or more pipes lie within (or are touching) a property, association depends on the pipes' end node ID values.
- If there is one pipe with an unknown end node ID, it will be preferred to pipes for which both ends are known.
- Otherwise, no association is made.
A pipe end is considered to be unknown if its value is null (empty), or if it is present in the Unknown Nodes list of the Reserved Node Names tab of the Name Generation dialog.
