Merging (Copying) Choice Lists
The copying of choice lists applies to both global and network preferences.
Choice lists can be copied from network to network, network to database, database to network and database to database.
When copying from a database it is the database choice lists that are copied and pasted.
Networks may have network choice lists that override the database choice lists for that network. If this is the case, the overriding network choice list(s) will be copied along with the network when the network is copied and pasted. Network choice lists can also be copied separately to a network of the same type or to the database choice lists. The network choice lists do not apply to the database.
To copy and paste choice lists:
- Display an Explorer view of the database or transportable database from which you want to copy the choice lists.
- Right-click on the source database icon at the top of the database tree (if copying from the database) and select Advanced | Copy from the popup menu, or right-click on the source network icon in the tree view (if copying from a network) and select Copy from the popup menu.
- Display an Explorer view of the standalone or workgroup database or transportable database to which you want to copy the choice lists.
- Right-click on the target database icon at the top of the database tree (if copying onto a database) or on the target network icon in the tree view (if copying onto a network) and select Advanced | Paste choice lists (merge) from the popup menu.
- An HTML log file is displayed with details of the choice lists that have been updated.
A choice list that is updated during the copy / paste process is actually overwritten. A warning message will be displayed in the log file to inform the user.
