Updating the Network from General Survey Data

Asset location and condition information can be updated from General Surveys and General Survey Lines:

• The Asset ID field of the survey corresponds to the ID field of associated assets (except for surveys associated with collection network pipes).
• For Collection network pipes, the US node ID, DS node ID and Link suffix of the survey corresponds to the US node ID, DS node ID and Link suffix of the associated pipe.
• The location of existing assets can optionally be updated from the associated survey X coordinate and Y coordinate.
• The Survey date field of existing assets (where applicable) will be updated from the associated survey's Survey date.
• The Condition grade / score field of existing assets (where applicable) will be updated from the associated survey's Overall condition.
• The Notes field of existing assets will be updated from the associated survey.
• New assets can optionally be created from surveys in cases where the associated asset does not already exist.

To update the network from General Survey and/or General Survey Line data:

1. With the network open, select Update from general surveys from the Network menu. The Update Network from General Survey Data dialog is displayed.Show me

   

2. In the dialog, select the required options. The options available are:
• Update from general surveys and/or general survey lines
• Import any flags stored with the survey data or set a default flag for all imported data
• Update from only currently selected surveys
• Create assets that do not already exist from surveys
• Update asset X, Y location information from surveys
• Copy attachments from the survey to the updated asset
• Treat surveys with the same survey date as one survey
3. Click OK to continue the update.

For each General Survey and/or General Survey Line, InfoAsset Manager checks if the survey has already been used in the network (Used in network field checked). Only surveys that have not been used are considered for update. See the General Survey Updating Rules section below.

For each survey that has an unchecked Used in network field, InfoAsset Manager checks the date of the survey data. If the date is more recent than that in the Survey date field for the asset, the asset data is updated. The Current field of the survey used for update is checked.

An Update from Surveys log is displayed containing information on number of assets created / updated and details of survey objects not used for update.

General survey updating rules

Creation of new assets from General surveys

If an associated asset does not exist in the network a new asset will be created at the X, Y coordinates of the General Survey. The Survey date field of the new asset will be populated with the Survey date of the General Survey.

The Used in network field will be checked for all General Surveys used to create new assets.

Note: If there are multiple surveys with the same Survey date for a particular asset and Treat surveys with the same survey date as one survey is checked, coordinates of the created asset will not be set if the coordinates of all associated surveys are not the same.

Update of existing assets from General surveys

Existing assets in the network will be updated from General Surveys if:

• The General Survey Survey date is later than the Survey date of the asset associated with the survey.

The Used in network field will be checked for all General Surveys used to update existing assets.

The Update from Surveys Log details the number of General Surveys not used for updating the network and the reason that the survey has not been used.

Existing assets will NOT be updated from General Surveys if:

General Surveys not used for network update	Details
Surveys previously used	Surveys previously used in the network are identified by the status of the Used in network field of the General Survey object in the General Survey Grid. If this field is checked, the survey is not considered for network updating.
Surveys older than the asset 'Survey Date'	If the survey's Survey date is earlier than the Survey date of the asset associated with the survey, the associated asset will not be updated.
Surveys lacking a survey date	The survey will not be used for updating if there is no Survey date value.
Surveys with blank asset id values	The survey will not be used for updating if there is no Asset ID value.
Surveys with illegal asset type values	The survey will not be used for updating if the Asset type of the survey is blank or not recognised.
Surveys creating assets with conflicting ids	The survey will not be used for updating if: The Asset ID of the survey for an asset type corresponds to the Asset ID of an existing Connection Node (Collection Network). The Asset ID of the survey corresponds to an asset type other than the asset type selected in the Asset type field of the survey

Updating asset locations

When updating asset locations, if there are multiple surveys with the same Survey date for a particular asset and Treat surveys with the same survey date as one survey is checked, coordinates of existing assets will not be updated if the coordinates of all associated surveys are not the same.

When updating locations of linear assets when the asset is connected to nodes:

• The connected nodes will not be moved.
• If the survey line has intermediate vertices, vertices will be inserted into the connected asset at location coinciding with the survey line vertices.
