Simplify Geometry Dialog

This dialog is used when simplifying polygon and polyline geometry data. It enables you to select thinning and correction options for a selection of polygon and subcatchment objects, and is displayed by selecting Geometry | Simplify from the Model menu.

Dialog Option Description
Thinning

A check in the Thinning box indicates that the number of vertices of selected objects are to be reduced, according to the Thinning options defined.

Correction

A check in the Correction box indicates that the correction of self intersecting polygons and polylines is to be performed.

Min segment length

This the minimum distance between vertices in map unit length (m or ft).

Vertices at a distance less than the Min segment length from another vertex will be removed by the thinning process.

Triangle height

Minimum triangle height.

Vertices forming a triangle height less than the specified Triangle height will be removed by the thinning process.

Polygon area constraint

A check in this box indicates that each selected polygon, whose area has changed as a result of thinning, is checked to ensure that it has not exceeded the value specified in the Maximum change in area field.

Maximum change in area

Enabled when the Polygon area constraint box is checked.

Sets the limit for the maximum change in area.

If this value is exceeded, then individual vertices, which were deleted as part of the thinning process, are reinstated until the change in area is within the specified limit.

Spur removal

A check in this box will remove any spurs (i.e. regions on the polygon boundary connected to the main polygon by a narrow band or spur) whose maximum width is less than the value specified in the Maximum spur width field.

Maximum spur width

Enabled when the Spur removal box is checked and sets the maximum width of a spur. Any spurs less than the specified maximum width are removed.
