Thinning a TIN Ground Model
The size of a TIN Ground Model can be reduced by removing a percentage of the points that it contains. This is done by creating a new TIN ground model based on an existing TIN ground model in the master database. Specify a percentage reduction in the number of points the new ground model will contain.
To reduce the size of a TIN Ground Model:
- On the Explorer Window, right click on a Ground Model TIN group and choose New InfoWorks | Ground model TIN or New SWMM | Ground model TIN from the popup menu. This displays the Create New TIN Ground Model Dialog.
- Enter a name for the new TIN ground model
- Drag and drop an existing TIN ground model into the Ground Model TIN box on the dialog, or use the button to browse for a ground model. Do not include any other source data for the new ground model
- Check the Show sizes box in the Thinning section of the dialog. The Current Size box displays the number of points contained in the existing ground model. Adjust the Point Reduction percentage to set how much smaller you want the new ground model to be. An estimate of the number of points in the new ground model is given in Compressed Size.
- Click on OK to start the creation process
