Autofiltering Grid Data

Data can be autofiltered in network object grid windows, allowing users to show rows of data based on the content of cells and conditions applied to them. Data can only be arranged vertically. In other terms, filter options are applied to column data but not to rows. The autofilter functionality available in InfoWorks ICM is based on the Microsoft Excel Autofilter and is accessible via the grid context menu and the Filter Options dialog (see below for details).

Filter context menu options

The following context menu options allow users to filter data in the corresponding network object grid window:

Menu item

Description

Filter

Enabled on any grid cell and on column headers.

Selecting this option displays the Filter Options dialog where filters can be set.

Filter on current cell value

Enabled on any grid cell.

Selecting this option will set a single condition equals filter on the current cell value without displaying the Filter Options dialog. See Filtering on the current cell value.

Clear filter

Enabled on any grid cell in a column where a filter has been applied or on a filtered column header.

Selecting this option will remove any filter applied to the column. Headers of filtered columns are identified by a Filter sign.

Filtering data

To filter data in a network object grid window:

  1. Open the network object grid window of interest.
  2. Right-click on a grid cell or a column header and select Filter from the context menu or press CTRL-L.
  3. The Filter Options dialog is displayed.
  4. Tip

If the Filter menu item is invoked on a currently filtered column, the currently set filter conditions will appear by default in the Filter Options dialog.

  5. Select an operator in the top dropdown list.
  6. Either type in a value in the box to the right of the operator dropdown or click on the Down arrow button to select a value.
  7. If two conditions are required (optional):
    1. Set the radio buttons to the desired state (And or Or)
    2. Repeat step 4 and 5 for the two boxes below the radio buttons.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Once filters have been applied:
    1. The header of filtered column displays a filter symbol (Filter).
    2. Thicker horizontal dividing lines are displayed where rows have been filtered on the grid left side.
Note

Filters are automatically re-applied if cells are edited or new rows added to the grid. If a row is modified so that it no longer matches the applied filters, the object will no longer be displayed in the grid. If a row is added that does not match the applied filters, the added object will not be displayed in the grid.

Removing filters

To remove existing filters:

  1. Right-click on a filtered column.
  2. Select Clear filter from the grid window context menu or press CTRL-U.

Filtering on the current cell value

It is possible to filter data on the current cell value:

  1. Right-click on a cell in the grid window of interest.
  2. Select Filter on current cell value from the context menu.

This is a shortcut method of setting an equals operator filter using the current cell value as the value. The Filter Options dialog is not displayed.
