Navigation Pane
The left hand pane of the HTML Help Viewer is the Navigation Pane. This contains tabs, or pages, that provide different options for finding your way around the help system.
The Navigation Pane normally contains four tabs:
- The Contents Tab has a complete list of
the Table of Contents. Click the or symbol next to a book, or double click the book itself, to
open or close the book. Click a topic within the book to display the
topic in the right-hand pane.
Some topics may actually be links to websites or other useful material outside the help system. These are also displayed in the right-hand pane.
Please NoteIf you do not have direct access to the Internet you may see an error message when trying to access an external link or a website.
See Using the Table of Contents for more information.
- The Index Tab displays the built-in index for the help file. You can type a word or scroll through the list. Topics are often indexed under more than one entry. See Using the Index. If you cannot find what you are after by using the index, it is recommended to use the Search facility available through the Search tab (see below).
- The Search Tab allows you to search the entire project using an automatically generated full-text search index. There is a separate section devoted to searching the HTML Help system. Please refer to Search Help Tips or Advanced Full-Text Search for more details.
- The Favourites Tab allows you to store a list of frequently used or important topics for easy access at a later date. See Listing Your Favourite Help Topics.
When you have found the topic you want on one of the four tabs, double click the Table of Contents entry, Index entry, or Search result or Favourite to display the corresponding topic.
Some of the Innovyze help systems may not include all the tabs listed above.
You can hide or show the Navigation Pane as needed. Use this option if you want to maximise the space available for viewing a topic in the Topic Pane. Show the Navigation Pane again when you need to move to another topic.
On the Help Toolbar, click the Hide or Show buttons to change the visibility of the Navigation Pane.
If you close the Help Viewer with the Navigation Pane hidden, the pane may remain hidden when you open the Help Viewer again.
Help systems are not limited to the four above-mentioned standard tabs. Individual help systems may include additional tabs serving different functions.
