IWLive Pro Permissions
Note: This information is subject to change for release 2023.2.
This topic describes the various areas of the IWLive Pro software application controlled by the IWLive Permissions dialog.
Administrator connect and operator connect permissions
These permissions are applied when you connect to a database. There are two instances when this behaviour is invoked:
- At start up, when you connect to the previous selected database.
- When you explicitly select another database.
Once you have successfully connected to a database, no further security checks are performed during the current session.
Connection to the currently selected database is not allowed if you do not have the Administrator Connect permission or do not have the Operator Connect permission when starting IWLive Pro. When connection to the database is refused, an error message indicating that you do not have the appropriate permission to access the database is displayed. The application environment will be placed in a state as if no master database were selected. You will be able to select another database.
Connection to the selected database is not allowed if you do not have the Administrator Connect permission when selecting another database in the IWLive Pro Administrator or does not have the Operator Connect permission when selecting another database in the IWLive Pro Operator. When connection to the database is refused an error message indicating that you do not have the appropriate permission to access the database is displayed. The application environment will revert to its previous state as if no master database selection request were made.
Advanced operator permission
This permission enables access to advanced IWLive Pro Operator functionality and is applied when you connect to a database.
Once you have successfully connected to a database, no further security checks are performed during the current session.
By default, the following baseline Runs window functions of the IWLive Pro Operator program are disabled, but are enabled for users with the Advanced Operator permission:
- Update from live data
- Update from parent
- Create incident run
- Simulate
- Protect run
- Verify
All of these functions can be found inside the Operations on current run group box.
By default, the baseline Request Projection window of IWLive Pro is not shown, but it is available for users with the Advanced Operator permission.
Note: The Advanced Operator permission is irrelevant if the Operator Connect permission is not granted, because connection to the database as an IWLive Pro Operator will not be allowed.
Server permission
This permission enables you to run the IWLive Pro Server service under your account name.
Service start up is not permitted if the account name under which the service is configured to run does not have the Server permission.
When service start up is not allowed, an appropriate error message will be added to the event log indicating that the configured account name does not have the appropriate permission to run the service.
Access to the following IWLive Pro Server apps is controlled by the Server permission:
- IWLiveNewRun
- IWLiveTidyUp
- IWLiveMaint
- IWLiveVerification
Running a server console app from the command line (not as an IWLive Pro Server process) is not allowed if the current user does not have the Server permission.
When running a server console app is refused, an appropriate error message is written to the command line indicating that the user does not have the appropriate permission to run the app.
Note: TestSwitchScript is not controlled by this permission.
