Adding layers with coordinate systems (ArcGIS)
Maps or other background layers, created using the appropriate format for the GIS component being used, can be displayed behind the network in the GeoPlan window.
A projected coordinate system can be assigned to a GeoPlan window (see Setting the coordinate system for details).
Individual layers loaded into the GeoPlan may also have associated coordinate system information.
Projected coordinate system assigned to GeoPlan window
- If a projected coordinate system has already been assigned to the GeoPlan window, a coordinate transformation is applied mapping from the layer's coordinate system to the GeoPlan's projected coordinate system.
- If there is no projected coordinate system (i.e. Unknown) assigned to
the GeoPlan window, the following rules apply:
- To add a layer with an associated geographical coordinate system, the GeoPlan window must have an assigned projected coordinate system. A warning message will be displayed in the Layer Control dialog and the layer will not be loaded if the GeoPlan window does not have an assigned projected coordinate system.
- If the lowest layer added (i.e. layer at the bottom of the list in the Layer Control dialog) has an associated projected coordinate system, the projected coordinate system of that layer will be assigned to the GeoPlan window. A warning message will be displayed in the Layer Control dialog if this occurs.
