Associating alternative demand with a network

In order to view and edit Alternative Demand data, it can be associated with a network. To edit the Alternative Demand data, it must first be checked out.

  1. First open a network. The network does not have to be checked out for Alternative Demand data to be edited. The check out state of the two items is completely independent.
  2. Either drag the Alternative Demand set from the Model Group window and drop it on to the GeoPlan Window of the network, or, right click the Alternative Demand set and select Open from the context menu. When using the second method, if there is more than one network open, the Alternative Demand set will be associated with the current network. Closed
  3. The current network is normally the last network that was the current Active Window and which is still open. The current Active Window in any Microsoft Windows application has a differently coloured title bar to all the other windows. In the default colour scheme, the active window title bar is blue, all other windows have a grey title bar.

If you close the current network:

    • the software will clear its pointer if no other network is open

    • if one other network is open, the pointer will point to this network

    • if more than one network is open, and closing the current one makes another the current active view, then that network becomes current

    • if more than one network is open, and closing the current one does not make another the current active view, the software sets its pointer to the first network view on its internal list.

The current network is used for many things. For example, when setting up reports using the current selection, the selection is taken from the current active network.

To ensure that you know which is the current network, make the correct network the current Active Window before moving on to do other editing.

If the Alternative Demand data contains data for a network object that does not exist in the network, the data for that object will be ignored.

Once Alternative Demand data has been associated with a network, it will be displayed on the grid views, and additional alternative demand pages will be added to the property sheets for objects that can have demand assigned to them.

If a new Alternative demand set is associated with a network that already has associated Alternative Demand, the new Alternative Demand will become associated with the network, and the existing Alternative Demand will be closed.
