Displaying additional GIS layers
Maps or other background layers, created using the appropriate format for the GIS component being used, can be displayed behind the network in the GeoPlan window.
The steps to display a GIS background layer differ depending on the map control being used.
To display a GIS background layer:
- Right-click the GeoPlan window and select Layer Control.
The Layer Control dialog is displayed.
- Click the Add button and select the MapInfo table that contains the map.
- Check that the Visible box is selected.
- To display the map, click OK.
Any additional layers must be displayed below the InfoWorks WS Pro Network layer in the layer order. Because InfoWorks WS Pro draws the InfoWorks WS Pro Network layer, and other layers are drawn by the MapX component, the InfoWorks WS Pro Network layer must be drawn last. If you place layers above the InfoWorks WS Pro Network layer they will disappear whenever you do anything that forces the InfoWorks WS Pro Network layer to be redrawn. Use the Layer Control dialog to alter the order of the layers.
To display a background layer:
- Right-click the GeoPlan window and select Layer Control.
This displays the Layer Control dialog.
- Click the Add button and use the standard Windows File Open dialog to choose the feature class to be loaded.
- Click OK on the layer control dialog to display the layer and close the dialog, or click Apply to display the layer while keeping the dialog open.
Layer properties can be adjusted by selecting the layer in the layer control grid and clicking the Properties button. The Layer Properties dialog will be displayed.
Web Map Service images, ArcGIS Server Map Service images and other background layers in ESRI ArcMap format can be displayed behind the network on the GeoPlan window, when using the ArcGIS Desktop map control.
To display a background layer:
- Right-click the GeoPlan window and select Layer Control.
This displays the Layer Control dialog.
- Click the Add button and use the subsequent dialog(s) to choose the Feature Class, WMS data set or ArcGIS Server Map Service data set to be loaded.
- Click OK on the layer control dialog to display the layer and close the dialog, or click Apply to display the layer while keeping the dialog open. (By default, when displaying WMS layers, only the first twenty sub layers are marked as visible. To edit the visibility settings, click the Properties button to display the Web Map Service Properties dialog.)
Layer properties can be adjusted by selecting the layer in the layer control grid and clicking the Properties button:
- The Layer Properties dialog will be displayed if the currently selected layer is not a WMS layer.
- The Web Map Service Properties dialog will be displayed if the currently selected layer is a WMS layer.
The functionality described above is not available for ArcGIS Server Map layers (the Properties button is disabled). Use your GIS component to view the properties of such layers.
Move the layer above or below other layers using the Up and Down buttons.
