Setting area codes
The Set Area Codes tool is used to set the Area Code or Isolation Area Code field of nodes and links based on the sub-network in which the object is located.
The tool performs a trace on the network in order to divide the network into several sub-networks. Area codes can then be specified and set for objects in selected sub-networks.
The tracing methodology used is the same as that used for the Boundary Trace. Tracing radiates out from a starting point and stops when it reaches a bounding object or the limits of the network. Subsequent traces are carried out until all objects in the network have been covered.
To set area codes:
- Select Set Area Codes from the Model menu. This displays the Set Area Codes dialog.
- Set options on the Set Area Codes dialog:
- Select which network object field is to be updated: Area Code or Isolation Area Code
- Set Bounding Nodes and Bounding Links options to be used when carrying out the boundary trace to divide the network into sub-networks
- Click the Find Areas button to carry out the boundary trace
- Set the options for setting codes at objects and optionally select a user flag to be applied to updated fields
- For each sub-network for which area codes are to be set:
- In the Area Grid, select a code from the New Area Code column or type in a code to be applied to objects in the sub-network. To automatically generate new area codes for a selection of sub-networks; select the sub-networks in the grid and click the Generate Unique Names button.
- Select the row in the Area Grid corresponding to the sub-network to be updated
- Click the Set Area Codes button to update the Area Code / Isolation Area Code field of the objects in the sub-networks selected in the Area Grid. Area Code / Isolation Area Code fields will be updated with the value in the New Area Code column of the Area Grid.
