Validating networks
You can examine a network for missing values, errors, and inconsistencies at any time using the InfoWorks WS Pro validation options.
Validation is carried out:
- when you choose Network | Validate network
- when you use the validate button on the Operations toolbar when the current window is a network, live data configuration, or baseline object
- if you answer Yes when asked to validate a network when you check it in
During validation, the network is checked for missing values, errors and inconsistencies that may affect simulation results. Therefore, you should validate a network before checking it in.
Notes:
- You can cross-check data in your demand diagram and electricity tariff with the data in your network by including them on the Network Validation dialog.
- InfoWorks WS Pro offers an additional level of engineering validation, which checks for data that is not consistent with expected engineering values: for example, pipe diameters outside of a defined expected range. You can apply either a set of default validation rules or your own modifications to these rules. See Engineering Validation.
To validate a network:
- Make either the GeoPlan window or a grid window the current window.
- Select Network | Validate network.
- If prompted, choose the type of validation to be performed.
- Click OK.
- To see the results of the validation, right-click the run in the Model Group window, then select Open validation results.
This displays the Output window, which lists any errors, warnings, or information messages.
- Use the Output window options to investigate the corresponding fields and make corrections, where required.
Tip: When you check a network in, InfoWorks WS Pro will warn you if you have not validated the data and will give you the option to validate the network. You do not have to validate the network but you will normally wish to do so.
