Merge Changes from Another Network

You can merge changes in one network (the source network) into another network (the target network) so that the differences in one are copied to the other.

You can, for example, branch any network, make edits to the branch according to your modelling requirements, and then merge the changes back into the original network for further analysis.

Or you may be sent a transportable database from an external organisation, or another user, and want to merge their network changes into your network.

When the networks are merged, a summary of the merged objects is included in a Review Network Merge report. You can use the report to resolve any conflicting object properties values which occurred as a result of the merge.

To merge changes from another network

  1. In the Explorer window, right-click the network you want add the changes to (the target network) and select Merge changes from another network.

Note: You can only merge into a network if it does not have any changes. Otherwise, the software displays a warning that there are uncommitted changes, and will require you to commit the changes first before merging with another network.

The Merge Changes into dialog is displayed.

  2. Drag the network, which contains the changes you want to add, to the Source network box.
  3. Check Preserve changes since common base version if you want to keep any changes made after a version of a network, that is common to both source and target, was committed. If there is more than one version of the network to choose from, the Select Commit dialog is displayed, from which you can choose the appropriate version.

Note: If Preserve changes since common base version is not checked, it will be difficult for the software to detect objects that have been renamed, unless the Use Asset ID for matching or Use location for matching are checked. If none of the boxes are checked, renamed objects will appear as deleted in the Review Network Merge report.

  4. Check Use Asset ID for matching and/or Use location for matching if required.
  5. Click OK.

A summary of objects, which have been added, modified, renamed or deleted, is displayed in the Review Network Merge report. The report also lists any objects which have conflicting property values after the merge.

You can either accept the Incoming Value or use the Current Value for each of the conflicts listed. To choose which value should be applied:

  6. Click the Conflict tab.
  7. If you do not want to accept the Incoming Value for an object, check the Undo box and the Current Value will be applied instead.
  8. Click (Close) when you are finished reviewing the conflicting values and the changes will be applied to the target network.

Tip: You can 'unmerge' the target network by opening it on the GeoPlan and selecting Undo:Merge from the Edit menu.
