Work Packages
A Work Package is a region or street in the network for which a collection of incidents and associated tasks can be defined. The use of work packages does not revolve around assets or groups of assets but is based on a specific geographical area in the network, for which incidents may be identified and that needs surveying or repairing.
Work Packages are Zone Objects that are represented by polygons on the GeoPlan Window. Work Packages can be created and moved in exactly the same way as other polygons. For instructions, see Digitising Network Objects and Editing Network Object Geometry. Additionally, Work Packages are tasks and as such, can be created as Scheduled Tasks.
Validation is available to ensure that:
- If an incident is associated with a work package, that the work package does exist.
- If a task is associated with a work package, that the work package does exist.
- If a work package is associated with an asset, that the asset exists in the network.
The user can easily identify which incidents or tasks a Work Package is associated with by using Navigate |To Related Objects () toolbar option from the Work Package tabbed Property Sheet or the Object Properties Window, which opens the relevant Object Property Sheet.
Alternatively launch the Object Browser Window to displays object relationships and manage related objects.
It is important to note that the following rules are applicable to work packages:
- A survey, repair or incident may be associated with one work package only.
- A "parent" work package can have several associated "child" packages. This can be useful when subdividing the work between different teams or individuals.
- Work package overall status and cost are a function of the tasks associated with it.
- A Work Package cannot be closed until every task belonging to it is closed.
The total costs (actual and estimated) of all the tasks that are part of a work package, including tasks that are work packages themselves, is calculated by selecting the work package in the GeoPlan or Network Object Grid Window and choosing the Selection operations | Calculate work package costs option from the Selection menu
