Extend Selected Cross Sections Dialog
This dialog is used to extend the left, right or both ends of one or more selected cross sections by a specified distance.
If one or more bank lines are also selected, you can choose to:
- extend the section ends to the intersection with the nearest selected bank lines that are located within the specified distance from the section ends
- extend the section ends to the intersection with the nearest selected bank lines that are located within the specified distance from the section ends, and, if a bank line is not found, extend the ends of the applicable cross section by the specified distance
If a ground model has been loaded onto the GeoPlan, you can choose to:
- set the elevation for new cross section vertices according to ground model heights
- set the maximum spacing between the new vertices on the extended cross sections
The dialog is displayed by selecting Geometry | Extend Selected Cross Sections from the Model menu.

Extend left/right distances beyond section end |
This option is enabled when at least one cross section line is selected on the GeoPlan. Extends, by the distance specified in the Extend left side of section by and/or Extend right side of section by boxes, the end vertices of the selected cross sections. |

Extend left/right distances to selected bank lines |
This option is enabled when at least one cross section line and at least bank line are selected on the GeoPlan. Extends the selected cross sections to the intersection of the nearest selected bank lines that lie within the distance specified in the Extend left side of section by and/or Extend right side of section by boxes. Any cross section, for which a bank line is not found within the specified distance, will not be extended. |

A check box that determines whether or not the left side (when looking downstream) of all selected cross sections are to be extended. The section will be extended in the direction of the last segment of the section on the left side. If checked (default), the box to the left is enabled allowing you to specify the distance that the selected sections are to be extended by. By default, the value of the last specified distance is displayed in the box which can be changed as required. |

A check box that determines whether or not the right side (when looking downstream) of all selected cross-sections are to be extended. The section will be extended in the direction of the last segment of the section on the right side. | Populate extensions from ground model |
A check box that is enabled and checked (default) when a ground model is opened on the GeoPlan. It determines whether or not any new cross section vertices have their elevation (Bed level property) set according to the ground model heights at those points. If unchecked, no elevations are set for when the cross section vertices are generated. |

A check box that is enabled and checked (default) when a ground model is opened on the GeoPlan. It determines whether or not a specified distance between the new vertices is to be applied when the cross sections are extended. If checked, the maximum distance between vertices can be specified in the adjacent box. By default, the value of the last specified distance is displayed in the box which can be changed as required. |

Extends the cross section line by generating new vertices according to the specified options and closes the dialog. Further information about the extension process can be found in the Extending Selected Cross Sections topic. When the extension operation is complete, the Extend Cross Sections Report window is displayed. This contains information about the number of cross sections extended, number of failures and reasons for failures. |
