Importing and Exporting Gridded Ground Models
A gridded ground model is made up of blocks of gridded data, such as LIDAR data. Each block of data has a uniform resolution, such as a 2 metre cell spacing. However, different blocks can have different resolutions. Blocks can overlap. If they do, the block with the highest resolution is used for the overlapping area.
Importing Ground Models (Grid)
A gridded ground model can be imported from the following:
- a selection of ground model files (.asc, .tif or .tiff, or .txt format)
- a folder containing ground model files (.asc, .tif or .tiff, or .txt format)
Only GeoTIFF .tiff or .tif files of the type Byte, Int16, UInt16, Float32, Float64 can be imported.
Importing .igm format files
A single .igm ground model file exported from InfoWorks can be imported into a single ground model.
To import an InfoWorks ground mode file:
- In the Explorer window,
right-click the

This displays a Windows Open dialog.
- Select the file to be imported and click Open.
The ground model file will be imported using the original name of the InfoWorks exported ground model. If a ground model already exists with that name, exclamation marks will be appended to the name to make it unique.
Exporting Ground Models (Grid)
Gridded ground models can be exported to ESRI ASCII raster format files.
To export a ground model:
- Right-click the ground model (grid) in the Explorer window and select Export | to ESCR ASCII grid files.
A Windows Save As dialog is displayed.
- Locate the folder where the exported ground model files are to be stored.
By default, the exported files will be given the same name as the ground model with an asc extension.
- If you do not want to use the default name, then specify the required name in the File name field.
- Ensure that the Save as type is set to ESRI ASCII grid (*.asc).
- Click Save.
The Ground Model Grid (Import/Export) Dialog is displayed.
- If required, set the units options for the export.
- On the Ground Model Grid (Import/Export) Dialog, click OK.
A message is displayed indicating the progress of the export.
Large ground models are stored as multiple blocks, and when exported, each block will be exported as a separate file. The naming convention for these files is filename_n, where filename is the specified file name and n is a number in the range between 0 and the maximum number of exported files minus 1.
When the export is complete, a message is displayed informing you of how many files have been exported, and the location of the exported files.
