Importing from Snapshot File
The network can be updated by importing data from an exported snapshot of the network.
A snapshot file can be used to share data with other users who do not have access to the master database. These users can edit the network and their changes can then be incorporated back into the original. For example, you might:
- send a copy of the network to a colleague or consultant
- take a copy of the network into the field or to another office on a laptop
To import a snapshot file:
- Choose Import | Snapshot file from the Network menu. This displays a standard Windows File Open Dialog.
- Select the Snapshot file to import and click Open. The extension of snapshot files that can be imported depends on the type of network that the data is being imported to:
- Model Networks have an extension of .isfm
- Collection Networks have an extension of .isfc
- Distribution Networks have an extension of .isfd
- Asset Networks have an extension of .isfa
- The Import
Snapshot Dialog will be displayed. On the dialog:
- select the object types to be imported
- choose whether to import attachment files such as images, videos or other attachments.
- set advanced options if required
- Click Import to complete the import process.
InfoWorks ICM imports the snapshot data into your local copy of the network. It is necessary to commit the changes before other users can access the new data.
When importing from a snapshot file it is not possible to resolve conflicts in the usual way. The snapshot file is assumed to be right and the snapshot data overwrites any conflicting data.
