Setting Default Values
Default values and flags for many fields for most object types can be set. These values are then used when a new object of that type is created. This allows creation of a series of similar objects without having to type in individual fields for each one.
The facility is especially useful in conjunction with the GeoPlan View digitising options that allows addition of multiple nodes and links without having to fill in information about each object when it is added.
Templates containing default values for objects are created and stored in a Digitisation Template. Templates to be used when creating new objects are selected for use in the Digitisation Default Selection Dialog.
Once templates have been selected in the Digitisation Default Selection Dialog, they will be used when creating all new objects as long as the Initialise New Objects with Digitisation Default Values box on the General Page of the GeoPlan Properties Dialog is checked.
Applying Default Values to the Network
Default values are set on the Digitisation Default Selection Dialog. This dialog is displayed by selecting Digitisation defaults from the Tools menu.
Drag the Digitisation Template containing the templates to be used for setting default values into the Digitisation Template selection box.
The template to be used for each network object may be mapped to an object type by selecting from the dropdown list in the Template column of the grid. Each dropdown list contains only those templates from the selected Digitisation Template that correspond with the object type in the row.
- Use the Set All <none> to clear existing mappings and set all fields to <none> (Template mappings are remembered from previous use of the dialog.)
- Use the Apply button to apply all changes made to template mappings
- Use the OK button to apply changes made to template mappings and dismiss the dialog.
- Use the Undo button to undo any changes made since the last time changes were applied
Once the templates have been mapped, they will be used when creating all now objects as long as the Initialise New Objects with Digitisation Default Values box on the General Page of the GeoPlan Properties Dialog has been checked.
Previous mappings in the Digitisation Default Selection Dialog are remembered. If a template that is mapped to an object does not exist in the currently selected Digitisation Template the Template cell will be highlighted pink. The template mapping will be ignored for that object; no defaults will be set when creating a new object of that type.
