Deleting network objects

IMPORTANT

With all these methods, once the network objects have been deleted, the operation cannot be undone.

There are a number of ways in InfoWorks WS Pro to delete network objects.

Deleting a selection using the menu

You can delete network objects by creating a selection and then using Selection | Selection operations | Delete all selected objects. You will be given a warning that the deletion cannot be undone. You can choose to continue or cancel the deletion.

Deleting a selection using toolbar buttons

There are two advanced toolbar buttons available for deleting network objects. They are:

Confirmed deletion (on the Advanced toolbar)

This icon will delete all currently selected network objects. You are warned before the deletion takes place, and can cancel the operation. Once the objects have been deleted, the operation cannot be undone.

IMMEDIATE deletion (on the Advanced toolbar)

This icon is a more dangerous version of the icon above. It will delete all currently selected network objects immediately without any chance for you to cancel the operation. Once the objects are deleted they cannot be restored.

You should use this icon as an alternative to the one above.

Note

This tool should be used only with great care.

Because the IMMEDIATE deletion icon is quite dangerous to use, you might want to consider making only the Confirmed deletion icon available on your toolbars. See Customising the toolbars. Both icons are in the Advanced category on the Customise - Commands page.

Deleting objects from the grid views

You can delete objects from the grid views by selecting one or more objects on the grid view and pressing the Delete key.

This technique deletes only selected rows from a single grid. It does not remove any selected network objects from other grids.

Deleting nodes connected to links

When deleting a selection including nodes that are connected to links, the Deleting Node dialog will be displayed.

Select whether to delete links connected to the selected node and/or whether to connect pipes if they are compatible (pipes to be connected have the same diameter, material, etc.)

When connecting compatible pipes, InfoWorks WS Pro checks for differences in field values before joining the pipes together. If there are differences in values, the Resolve Connected Pipe Attributes dialog is displayed. Click the cell containing the arrow to select which value to assign to the joined pipe. If the pipe notes differ, it is possible to choose notes from link A, notes from link B, or the notes can be merged (click the cell until the <-> symbol is displayed).

Click OK to join the pipes and assign attributes as selected. Click Do not connect to dismiss the dialog; the pipes will not be joined and the node will not be deleted.

Not all pipe fields are checked for differences. The fields that are checked are:

  • Asset ID
  • User Number 1
  • Bulk Coefficient
  • User Number 2
  • Local Loss
  • User Text 1
  • Notes
  • User Text 2
  • Live Data Point ID
  • Pipe Closed
  • Status
