Export to GIS File Format
A copy of the network can be exported to GIS file format. This could be used to send files to another user, or for conversion to a different GIS package not supported by InfoWorks WS Pro.
The GIS file formats currently supported are:
Note:
- To use this functionality you must have ArcMap installed on your machine.
To export files in ESRI ArcMap format:
- Right-click the network in the Model Group window or Explorer window.
- Choose Export | To Geodatabase.
This displays a standard Select Geodatabase dialog.
- Choose the destination Geodatabase you require.
The GIS Export dialog is displayed.
- Select options on the GIS Export dialog:
- Export with/without flag data
- Export/Do not Export empty tables
- Export using InfoWorks WS Pro Native Units / current User Units
- Enter a name to be used for the feature data set.
This name will also be used as a prefix for feature classes.
- To export an MXD file, check the Create MXD file option.
You can browse for a folder or specify a path for the export file in the File box.
- To continue, click OK.
The network tables are now exported. Dialogs will be displayed to show how the export of each type of object is progressing. A feature data set containing a feature class of each exported object is created. The files are exported using standard filenames, which you cannot change (apart from the prefix, see above).
Notes:
- You cannot create a new Geodatabase using the standard Select Geodatabase dialog. If you want a new Geodatabase you will have to create one in advance.
- The exporter allows a maximum limit of 255 fields to be exported. It is possible that this limit may be exceeded when including flags for export. Tables that have more than 255 fields when flags are included will be exported without flags. (Use the Open Data Export Centre for greater flexibility in exporting fields and flags.)
CAUTION:
- The files are exported using standard filenames, which you cannot change. If you export to a directory where you have already exported a network, files will be overwritten.
To export files in MapInfo format:
- Right-click the network in the Model Group window or Explorer window.
- Choose Export | To MIF files.
If the Select Network Version and Scenario dialog is displayed, select the version and/or scenario that you want to export.
A standard Windows Select Folder dialog opens.
- Choose the destination directory you require.
The GIS Export dialog is displayed.
- Select options on the GIS Export dialog:
- Export with / without flag data
- Export using InfoWorks WS Pro Native Units / current User Units
- To continue, click OK.
The files are now exported. Dialogs will be displayed to show you how the export of each type of object is progressing. A series of pairs of files with MIF and MID extensions are created.
CAUTION:
- The files are exported using standard filenames, which you cannot change. If you export to a directory where you have already exported a network, files will be overwritten.
To export files in ESRI ArcView format:
- Right-click the network in the Model Group window or Explorer window.

Note:
- The exporter allows a maximum of 255 fields to be exported. It is possible that this limit may be exceeded when including flags for export. Tables that have more than 255 fields when flags are included will be exported without flags. (Use the Open Data Export Centre for greater flexibility in exporting fields and flags.)
