A network can be opened as a background layer in the GeoPlan window of a currently open network.
A background network can be opened by the following methods:

- Select the network using Background Network dialog
- Drag a network from the current database from the Explorer window to the GeoPlan window
By default the latest version of the network selected as a background network will be loaded into the GeoPlan. It is only possible to select previously committed versions of a network when using the Background Network dialog to select a network.
Opening a guest network
To open a background network from a Guest Database:
- Open a network.
- Select Open | Open another database from the File menu. This displays the Open Database dialog.
- Select the database to be opened. Click OK. This displays the Guest Explorer view.
