Choosing the Manhole Coding Standard

InfoAsset Manager assumes that most organisations will normally work with just one Manhole Survey coding scheme. For this reason the coding standard is applied at the database level by default. However, it is possible to override the database coding standard on a per network basis.

InfoAsset Manager supports several different Manhole Survey coding schemes. The available coding schemes are:

Details of these coding schemes can be found in the table below.

To change the current Manhole coding standard for the database:

  1. Select Database management | Standards & choice lists from the File menu (available when no networks are open). This displays the Standards and Choice Lists Dialog.
  2. In the Manhole Standard box, select the Manhole Standard to be applied to this database.
  3. Click OK to apply changes.

To change the current Manhole coding standard for the current network:

  1. Select Standards & choice lists from the Network menu to display the Standards and Choice Lists Dialog.
  2. In the Editing Standards & Choice Lists For section select the Network option. If there is no Network option, click the Override button to create new settings for the current network.
  3. In the Manhole Standard box, select the Manhole Standard to be applied to the current network.
  4. Click OK to apply changes.
Changing the Manhole Coding Standard

If you change the Manhole coding standard for an existing database of network, you will not lose any Manhole coding data that has already been entered. However, the data will no longer be valid as the codes for each standard are different. The resulting assessment of manhole condition will therefore also be incorrect. For this reason, changing the scoring scheme for a database or network that already contains Manhole Survey data is not recommended.

Manhole Standard Choice Lists

Most choice lists can be edited in the Standards and Choice Lists Dialog. By default, choice lists defined by the selected Manhole Standard are read only. The read only status of these choice lists can be overridden, allowing existing choices to be edited and user defined choices to be added.

Edited Manhole Standard Choice Lists

Edited Manhole Standard choice lists will no longer conform to the selected standard, which may result in incorrect calculation of Manhole scores and consequently, assessment of manhole condition.
