Updating the Network from Manhole Survey Data
The network can be updated using the data from Manhole Surveys. Existing manholes will be updated from the associated Manhole Survey. New manholes will be created from Manhole Surveys in cases for which the associated manhole does not already exist.
To update the network from Manhole Survey data:
- Select Update from manhole surveys from the Network menu. This will display the Update Network from Survey Data dialog.
- Set options on the dialog:
- Check Copy flags from survey data to import any flags stored with the survey data. If this option is not selected, a flag to be applied to imported data can be chosen from the Flag for changed fields list.
- Check Use only selected surveys to update from currently selected surveys only.
- Check Copy and overwrite attachments by purpose to copy attachments from the survey to the updated manhole.
- Click Pipe Stub Options to select drawing options for incoming and outgoing pipes identified
in the manhole survey that do not have a specified from / to node (Collection
Networks only). In the Pipe Stub Options dialog:
- Enter a value for the length of pipe stub to be created.
- Select an option for interpretation of the Direction field in the Incoming and Outgoing Pipes grid displayed in the Pipes Page of the Manhole Survey Property Sheet. (Direction can be specified in degrees (0-360), clock (1-12), or compass (NNE etc.) units). Alternatively, select the option to draw incoming / outgoing pipes pointing north / south.
- Click OK to continue the update.
For each Manhole Survey, InfoAsset Manager checks if the survey has already been used in the network (Used in Network field checked). Only surveys that have not been used are considered for update.
For each manhole survey that has an unchecked Used in Network field, InfoAsset Manager checks the date of the survey data. If the date is more recent than that in the Survey Date field for the manhole, the manhole data is updated. (Collection Networks only: The Current field of the Manhole Survey used for update is checked. See below for more information).
An Update from Surveys log is displayed containing information on number of nodes and pipes created / updated and details of survey objects not used for update.
When updating the network objects, the following rules are used:
- All manhole surveys in which the Used in Network field is checked are ignored.
- Newly surveyed manholes are added to the network.
- Existing manholes in the network are updated if the survey is more recent than the Survey Date field.
- Existing links are updated (downstream attributes of incoming links and upstream attributes of outgoing links) (Collection Networks only).
- Any other links found in the survey are added (Collection Networks only).
The attributes specified in the Incoming/Outgoing pipes editors apply to Link type of cams_pipe. Attributes may not apply to links of other types. Attributes that do not apply will not be used in the update process. Use Built In Validation Rule 315 to check for values specified for attributes that do not apply for each incoming/outgoing link.
GPS Surveys take precedence for setting asset location over Manhole Surveys.
If a node is about to the updated and there is a GPS survey of this node that has already been "used", then the X & Y coordinates for the node will not be updated by the manhole survey.
Identifying "Current" Manhole Surveys
The Current field of a Manhole Survey can be used to show which surveys have been used to update the network. The field can be viewed on the Manhole Survey Grid Window of the Survey Grid and the Node Page of the Manhole Survey Property Sheet.
On update of the network from Manhole Surveys, the most recent survey for a pipe will be used to update the network. The Current field of the most recent survey will be checked. If an earlier survey for the pipe exists that was previously used to update the network, the Current field of the earlier survey will be unchecked.
Current surveys can also be identified by:
- Selecting the Navigate tool in the Node/Manhole Survey property sheet, which will show an asterisk next to the Manhole Survey that is current.
- Querying the current field in the SQL tool using "Current = 1".
