2D Zones

2D Zones are used as part of the mesh generation process carried out when undertaking 2D Modelling. They can be used to define areas of particular interest for which more detailed analysis is required.

There are two methods of mesh generation used in ICM - Classic or Clip meshing - which are described in 2D Mesh Generation Methodology. Both these options are available for InfoWorks networks and are set in the 2D Zone properties. For SWMM networks, the newer Clip meshing method is automatically applied when mesh generation is performed.

For InfoWorks networks, initial values for level, depth and velocity can be applied to the 2D Zone using an Initial Conditions 2D object.

2D Zones can be imported via the Open Data Import Centre or, for InfoWorks networks, generated via intersection. Polygons can also be digitised directly on the GeoPlan Window.

2D Zone parameters are edited in the 2D Zone Grid Window of the Polygons Grid or the 2D Zone Property Sheet. The geometry of the polygons can be edited using the same tools as those used for editing general polygons.
