Opening Hyperlinked Information
Various methods can be used to open hyperlinked data attached to master database items and objects in the network.
To identify network objects with hyperlinks on the GeoPlan use the SQL Query hyperlinks.url <> null.
Objects in the database tree that have hyperlinks have an entry in the Hyperlinks column when you look at the detailed view on the Explorer Window. To display the additional details on either view, right click on the background (not a specific item) and choose Show Details on the popup menu. Hide Details will remove the additional information again.
Accessing Hyperlinks on the Database Tree
Objects in the master database tree that have hyperlinked information are marked in a special column in the Explorer Window.
In order to display this column:
- Right click on the background of the window (not on an item).
- Choose Show Details from the popup menu. If the extra columns are already visible, the Hide Details menu item makes them disappear again
To access hyperlinked data for a database item:
- Right click on the item and choose Properties from the popup menu. This displays the Properties Dialog.
- Switch to the Hyperlinks Page.
- Simply click on the name in the Name column of the grid. The name should be displayed and underlined in blue. The hyperlinked file or internet page will be displayed using the appropriate application.
Accessing Network Hyperlinks
A list of all hyperlinks attached to objects in a network can be displayed. This list can be used to access the hyperlinked information.
To generate the list, choose List all hyperlinks from the Network menu. This displays the List all Hyperlinks Dialog.
To display the hyperlinked data, simply click the hyperlink name in the Name column.
Hyperlinks attached to network objects can also be accessed from the GeoPlan Window, Network Object Grid Windows and Property Sheets:
To access hyperlinks from the GeoPlan:
- Right click on an object with hyperlinks. As well as the normal popup menu items, there will be a section on the menu listing up to ten hyperlinks for the object
- Click on any of the hyperlinks to open the associated file or URL
Objects with hyperlinks can be highlighted in the Geoplan using the SQL Query hyperlinks.url <> null.
If there are more than ten hyperlinks for the object, InfoWorks ICM only displays the first ten on the menu.
If you are viewing the network at quite a low zoom level, there may be more than one object with hyperlinks within range of the mouse when you right click. In this case, InfoWorks ICM will display more than one list of hyperlinks (a list for each object) separated by a line. Yet again, there will be a maximum of ten hyperlinks, and if there are more than ten a More Hyperlinks menu item is included. In this case:
- Click the More Hyperlinks menu item to bring up a Multiple Selection Dialog.
- From here, choose the object you want and you will be taken directly to the Hyperlinks Page of the Object Properties Window or Property Sheet.
You can access hyperlinked files or URLs directly from the network grid views. All network objects have a read-only Hyperlinks check-box on the Grid Window. This box will be checked for all objects with hyperlinks. See Using Hyperlinks for more about hyperlinks.
To access the hyperlinks:
- right click on an object with hyperlinks. As well as the normal popup menu items, there will be a section on the menu listing up to ten hyperlinks for the object
- click on any of the hyperlinks to open the associated file or URL
If there are more than ten hyperlinks for the object, InfoWorks ICM only displays the first nine on the menu. There is also a More Hyperlinks menu item. Click this to go directly to the Hyperlinks Page of the Object Properties Window. You can access all hyperlinks from this page.
You can access hyperlink files or URLs from the Hyperlinks Page on the Object Properties Window or Property Sheet of any network object that has hyperlinks.
Simply click on the name in the Name column of the grid. The name should be displayed and underlined in blue. The hyperlinked file or internet page will be displayed using the appropriate application.
