Using the Demand at Nodes grid window
The Demand at Nodes grid view provides a central location for viewing and editing node demand. It brings together all the information from the Node Demand pages of the individual node property sheets.
- With a network open, click the button on the Windows toolbar or choose Window | Grid windows | New node demand window.
Note: Networks are version controlled objects: see Managing version controlled objects.
Display of demand allocated by different methods can be controlled by using the following check boxes:
- Show CP-Allocated Demand - shows / hides display of demand associated with customer points allocated to the network
- Show Directly Allocated Demand - shows / hides display of demand entered directly at the node in the demand grid of the Node property sheet
- Show Land Use Allocated Demand - shows / hides display of land use demands associated with the network
The view displays only details of the demand at selected nodes. If a selection has not been made when the view is opened, you are given the choice of including all nodes in the network.
The node selection can be changed at any time by changing the selection in the network, then clicking the Refresh Node Selection button.
By default, the view displays only details of nodes that already have demand. Details of all nodes can be displayed by clicking the Show All Nodes button. This function is required if demand is to be added to a node that does not already have demand.
When viewing details of all nodes, click the Show Active Nodes Only button to return to the display of nodes with demand only.
By default, the view displays all types of demand: customer point allocated demand, directly allocated demand and land use demand. There is the choice of viewing all of these together, or just selected types by using the check boxes at the bottom of the Demand at Nodes grid view.
If there is a current demand diagram the view will display additional information. The view will update automatically when a demand diagram is opened or closed. Take care if more than one demand diagram is open, as switching between the two will cause the display to update.
With an open demand diagram, the Profile Avg. row displays read-only information about the profile. The value is the average for the profile. Ideally the profile will be normalised (average = 1.0) but this is not essential.
The colours give additional information:
- Green means the profile is normalised
- Yellow means the value is fixed (or unknown as no demand diagram is open)
- Pink means the profile is not normalised
- Red means that the demand category does not exist in the currently used demand diagram
Demand categories are only displayed on the view if they are currently used for a node displayed on the view. Demand can be displayed for a limited selection of nodes. Click the Add Category button to add additional categories from the demand diagram. This displays the Select Demand Category dialog. The dropdown list contains only categories that match the choices made on the dialog.
This facility allows the user to edit node demand and the demand diagram in parallel, adding demand categories to the demand diagram and then making them available for inclusion at nodes.
Demand categories can be added only when viewing demands of a checked out object. When viewing network demands or alternative demands of a checked in network or alternative demand, the Add Category button will not be available.
Click the Remove Category button to remove demand in a category from nodes currently displayed in the Demand at Nodes grid view. This displays the Remove Category dialog. The dropdown list contains only categories that are present in the Demand at Nodes grid view. Demand in the category to be removed will be de-allocated from the nodes currently displayed in the Demand at Nodes grid view. This can be used to remove demand allocation from a selection of nodes.
The Remove Category button cannot be used when viewing alternative demands.
The Combine Demands button allows demands that have been manually assigned to the same node to be combined. Demand entries can be merged for the following cases:
- Property type demands with the same user category and specific consumption values. (The demand entries are combined by adding the number of properties values.)
- Average type demands with the same user category. (The demand entries are combined by adding the average demand values.)
Network demand entries are viewed and edited on the Node Demand page of the Node property sheet for network demands.
If an alternative demand is associated with the current network, alternative demands may be viewed in the Demand at Nodes grid view. When viewing alternative demand, using the Combine Demands button will combine demands in the alternative demand. These demands can be viewed on the Alternative Demand page of the Node property sheet.
(The combine demands facility will be applied only to the current selection of nodes displayed in the grid view.)
