Working with GeoPlan labels
You can add labels to objects on the GeoPlan, or to any space on the GeoPlan. The labels can contain data about any object, other generated information, or free text. You can change the appearance of labels and what zoom levels they are shown at.
Labels are removed from a GeoPlan when it is closed. However, you can save the labels into a label list and then reapply them to the GeoPlan when you next open it.
Notes:
- The labels described in this topic are not:
- the bold-text IDs that appear with every node on the GeoPlan (you can change these by double-clicking a node on the GeoPlan and changing the value in the Node ID field)
- the tooltips in a yellow box that you see when hovering the mouse pointer over a network object.
- Labels on the GeoPlan are not saved with the network. If the GeoPlan is closed, all label information will be lost. Either save the labels in a label list (as described in this topic) or create a workspace to save the label information of the currently open GeoPlan.
- Editing or setting up labels may have an impact on tool tips.
- Click the Label tool on the Tools toolbar.
- Do one of the following:
- To add a label attached to an object, click the object.
- To add a free-text label that is not attached to any object, hold Ctrl and click in open space.
- To add a free-text label that is not attached to any object but which has a call-out line, click in open space.
The label is shown until the GeoPlan is closed or until cleared or deleted.
- Right-click the GeoPlan and select Properties & Themes.
This opens the GeoPlan Properties And Themes dialog.
- On the Layers And Themes page, select
This opens the Custom Label Settings dialog for the object type that you chose.
in the Custom Label column for the object type (node, transfer node, fixed head, etc.) whose label you want to set. - On the Content tab, with the Field List option chosen, click the box beside each field that you want included in labels. This applies only to the object type previously chosen.
- To save your choices, click OK.
- With the pointer showing the Label tool , double-click a label.
This opens the Custom Label Settings dialog.
- Assign fields or add free text, and format the text and label box, as required.
- To apply the changes, click Apply, then close the dialog by clicking OK.
- With the pointer showing the Label tool , double-click a label.
This opens the Custom Label Settings dialog.
- Click Delete.
You can save your current set of labels in a label list object in the master database. You can then reload the same labels, with the same data and positions, at any time.
GeoPlan window and long section view label lists may be saved under the same label list group. The different types of label list are differentiated by icon colour: yellow for GeoPlan label lists and purple for long section label lists.
To save a label list:
- Create one or more labels on the GeoPlan window.
- Unless it already exists, create a label list group for the label list (for example, in the Model Group window).
- In the Model Group window, right-click the label list group and choose New | Label List.
- Set a name for the
new label list and click OK.
The current label setup on the GeoPlan is automatically saved in the new label list.
- Drag one or more saved label lists from the Model Group window or Explorer window onto the GeoPlan.
You can select multiple label lists in the Model Group window or Explorer window by using the Shift or Ctrl keys.
Only one label can be applied per network object. If more than one selected label list has label information for an object, only one label will be displayed.
- Select GeoPlan | Clear all labels.
