About demand area analysis
One of the most important aspects of modelling a water supply system is the modelling of the demand for water from the system.
The demand for water in a given area can be divided into the following
- Domestic consumption
- Metered consumption
- Unmetered consumption
- Losses (including leakage)
- Exceptional demand (for example transfers)
Demand analysis provides the necessary input for simulation runs (for example, demand profiles to be applied to customer points), and is also valuable information for planners, designers and managers in the water company.
The demand area analysis functionality in InfoWorks WS Pro can be used to carry out the demand analysis that would otherwise be carried out as a separate task prior to modelling the water supply system.
Demand area analysis
The demand area analysis functionality in InfoWorks WS Pro can be used to calculate the following for each demand area:
- Unknown demand profile
- Unknown specific consumption
- Leakage specific consumption
InfoWorks WS Pro will interrogate data from a network, control, live data configuration, demand diagram, and simulation results in order to carry out the required analysis. Flow and leakage analysis is carried out over a 24 hour period.
Demand area analysis requirements
Before carrying out demand area analysis in InfoWorks WS Pro the following must be carried out:
- All known demand (metered usage) allocated to the network. The property counts for the unknown demand profile to be calculated by the demand area analysis must be entered in the Node Demand grid on the Node Demand page. If customer points are available, the static demand allocation tool should be used to allocate them to the network.
- Large metered consumers must be entered as direct demands. Transfer nodes must note be used to represent large metered consumers.
- A template demand diagram set up including demand categories for all unprofiled demand and leakage demand to be calculated by the demand area analysis.
- Demand area nodes assigned to nodes or demand area polygons set up.
Demand area grid view
The Demand Area Grid view is used to generate demand areas and to view and edit data for each demand area.
For more detailed information on creating and analysing demand areas in InfoWorks WS Pro, see the Using the Demand Area grid window.
