Importing gridded ground models
A gridded ground model is made up of blocks of gridded data, such as LIDAR data. Each block of data has a uniform resolution, such as a 2 metre cell spacing. However, different blocks can have different resolutions. Blocks can overlap. If they do, the block with the highest resolution is used for the overlapping area.
A selection of ground model files, or a folder containing ground model files, can be imported into a single Ground Model.
The import can be restricted to those files containing data that overlaps a single selected polygon. To use a polygon to limit the import of files, open the GeoPlan Window and select the polygon before starting the import process.
You can import gridded ground model files in different formats:
- ESRI format (.ASC)
- Vertical Mapper format (.TXT)
Note: Multiple files of different grid resolution can only be imported into a single Ground Model if the cell sizes are all integers.
To import a set of gridded ground model files:
- In the InfoWorks WS Pro Explorer or Model Group window, right-click the gridded ground model group.
- Select Import | Ground Model Grid Files or Import | Ground Model Grid Folder from the pop-up menu. This displays a File Open dialog.
- Select the file(s) / folder to be imported and click Open. This displays the Ground Model (Grid) Import dialog.
- Set options as required in the Ground Model (Grid) Import dialog:
- Give the gridded ground model a name in the Ground Model Grid field
- Set units to be applied to imported X, Y and Z values
- Set the resolution of the imported ground model by selecting a Base cell size
- Select whether to import the ground model Z values as integers or floating points
- Optionally, add data type information
- Click OK to import the files and generate the ground model.
