Testing forms locally

Forms may be tested locally before they are published. This is particularly useful if you have linked forms:

An illustration of forms launching another forms can be found in the Collection network example where the Smoke Test form has a button launching a Smoke Defect Observation form) or forms with fields that are populated with values from other forms, whether these result from direct entry in the field or calculations.

Procedure:

  1. On the Forms tab, in the Reports group, click New.
  2. The forms that are new or have been edited since the application was last published are identifiable by an *.

  3. Proceed as you normally would do to generate a report. That is, select the form of interest with an * and click the New button at the bottom of the screen, then fill in the report with test values.
  4. Test that the buttons launching other forms perform correctly, or that the fields that are supposed to get populated from other forms show the correct value.
  5. Save the reports so you can come back to them for viewing or editing.
  6. Correct the forms if necessary.
  7. Once you are happy with the forms, you can:
    • delete the test reports locally;
    • publish the application so that these forms are available to download by other users.
