Importing networks (overview)

Network data can be imported from a variety of external sources. When importing a network, you can also import a control file containing control data for the network. If the control file contains a record that refers to a network object not in the network, that record will be ignored. See Importing Control Data for more information.

If using the lock method of version control, imported version controlled items are always checked in. You will need to check out the network before you can make changes.

InfoWater

Data can be imported from an InfoWater XINP file. See Importing InfoWater data.

Synergi data

Data can be imported from the Synergi Water modelling package from GL Water. See Importing Synergi data for more details.

Epanet data

Data can be imported from EPANET v2 networks into InfoWorks WS Pro. You must first export your EPANET model as text files. InfoWorks WS Pro does not import the binary format (.NET) files. See Importing EPANET data for more details.

The EPANET software package simulates hydraulic and water quality behaviour in pressurised pipe networks. EPANET is produced by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. For further information, see the EPANET 2 User Manual.

AQUIS data

Data can be imported from AQUIS .dat files into InfoWorks WS Pro. See Importing AQUIS data for more details.

WATSYS/WaterMax data

Data can be imported from WATSYS/WaterMax v96 networkrs into InfoWorks. See Importing WATSYS/WaterMax data for more details.

Import from AutoCAD DWG

Network data can be imported from an AutoCAD DWG file. See Importing from AutoCAD DWG.

Import from CSV files

Data can be imported from CSV filesComma Separated Variable file format is a standard file format that can be imported and exported by many software packages. Many types of data can be imported and exported using csv format by InfoWorks.. The files have to be in an appropriate format and may need specific filenames. Further details on format requirements can be found in CSV file formats. See Importing from CSV files for more information.

Importing from InfoAsset

You can import network data from an InfoAsset snapshot file. See Importing from InfoAsset snapshot file.

Importing external GIS data

You can import network data from:

You can set up your own mapping between fields in the import data and fields in the master database. Advanced users can also use scripts to control the import process.

See Using the open data import centre for more information.
