Shutdown simulations

Shutdown Simulations allow assessment of the impact of watermain breaks and shutdowns on the system without the need to make changes to the Network or Control Data.

A selection of links to be closed and the outage period of the links is defined. Level of Service criteria are also set prior to running the simulation for use in the production of Service Level Reports on completion of the simulation.

To set up a Shutdown Simulation:

  1. Set up the simulation as normal as described in Creating and Scheduling a Run.
  2. Set the Run Type option to Shutdown. The Watermain Shutdown Run Parameters dialog is displayed automatically when this option is first selected. The dialog can also be displayed later by using the Options button when Shutdown is the run type.
  3. Set criteria on the Watermain Shutdown Run Parameters dialog.
    • Enter Selection List of links to be closed.
    • Set Link Outage Period (time at which links will be closed). Either the Start or the End time of the outage period must be within the Start and End time of the simulation.
    • Optionally select a base simulation to which the current simulation results will be compared when producing Service Level Reports.
    • Set the Service Level Criteria to be used when producing Service Level Reports.
    • Check the Show Service Level Report at end box to automatically display the Service Level Summary dialog on completion of the simulation.
  4. Run the simulation as normal.

The simulation will be run with the selected links closed at the Link Outage Period defined. If the Show Service Level Report at end option is checked, the Service Level Summary dialog will be displayed when the simulation has completed, with the Service Level Criteria set as specified in the Shutdown run.

Service Level Reports can also be created in the usual way from the Grid Reports | Service Level and Grid Reports | Service Level Summary options on the Results menu. When creating a Service Level Report from a Shutdown run, the Level of Service Criteria used in production of the report will be the criteria specified in the Shutdown run by default.
