Creating reports on maps
Map-aware reports, like any other report, can be generated in the conventional way, via the New tab. However, because they are geographically enabled, they can be created directly on the map. The main advantage of doing this is that some fields on the report are automatically populated by InfoAsset Mobile. The nature of these fields depends on the report type and on the method used.
This option is meant to be used for InfoAsset Manager reports objects that are based on underlying network objects, that is pipe repair, pipe clean, etc. Selecting this option not only populates any coordinates but will also fill in the related fields (US/DS Node id and Link Suffix) automatically.
Procedure:
- Ensure the Map view is displayed.
- In the Using Form dropdown list of the Reports group of the Map tab, select the form to use as a template for the new report .
- In the Reports group of the Map tab, select Create from (or optionally a selection type from the dropdown list).
- Click at the location of interest on the map.
- If a dialog is displayed prompting selection of a map object to create the report for, select the object and click OK.
Other dialogs may be subsequently displayed, such as the Usage message in the case of a dye test report, asking the user to confirm which pipes are to be used as monitoring and an injection pipe.
If the report has no layer on the map, a message will be displayed saying that the report will be created but that it cannot be shown on the map.
To continue, clear the message by clicking Yes. Alternatively, click No to abort. In this case, it may be a good idea to edit the map to add the relevant local dynamic layer (Dye test in the example message).
Tip:Dynamic layers are different to local dynamic layers in that they are a snapshot of the objects that were on the network when the layer was generated by InfoAsset Manager. Local dynamic layers are based on local reports. A report created in InfoAsset Mobile will not have a layer in the map and therefore will not be shown on the map if the corresponding local dynamic layer does not exist in the map.
The report is displayed with the coordinates fields and any other relevant fields automatically filled in.
- Fill in the report.
If the map does not contain dynamic layers that are suitable for the creation of the selected report, a warning message is displayed. For example, a pipe repair report cannot be created on the map if the map does not have a Collection - Pipe dynamic layer. To fix this, close the message, then add one or more suitable dynamic layers to the map if this has not been done in the past, or force an export from InfoAsset Manager if you believe that such layers were added to the map but have simply not been imported into InfoAsset Mobile.
Tip: The export from InfoAsset Manager of dynamic layers can be carried out via the Files subpage of the Options dialog.
- Ensure the Map View is displayed.
- Select the form to use as a template for the new report in the Using Form dropdown list of the Reports group of the Map tab.
- In the Reports group of the Map tab, select Create from (or optionally a selection type from the dropdown list).
- Click a manhole survey or node on the map.
The Select Map Object To Create... dialog is displayed.
- Select the desired network object and click OK.
A message is displayed asking if you want to use the selected item as the only manhole.
- To use the selected manhole as the only manhole, select Yes.
The report is displayed with the start manhole field automatically filled in with the name of the selected manhole.
Fill in the report.
- To use another node, select No.
A message is displayed telling you to select another node or manhole survey to be the finish manhole.
Click OK to close the message, then select another node or manhole survey on the map.
The Select Map Object To Create... dialog is displayed.
Select the network object of interest and click OK.
The report is displayed with the start manhole and the finish manhole fields automatically filled in with your selections.

- Select the form to use as a template for the new report in the Using Form dropdown list of the Reports group of the Map tab.
- In the Reports group of the Map tab, select Create from (or optionally a selection type from the dropdown list).

A message is displayed that asks you which direction (upstream or downstream) is the survey being completed.
- Select Upstream to survey upstream or Downstream to survey downstream. (To abort survey creation, select Cancel.)
If the report does not have a layer in the map, a warning message will be displayed.
Click Yes to create the report (the report will not be shown on the map) or No to cancel.
The report is displayed.
If the Start manhole and Finish manhole fields are present on the report, these will be automatically populated with the manhole IDs as specified by the user in the Manhole message, when one of the Upstream and Downstream buttons was clicked on.
- Fill in the report.
Similarly to CCTV surveys, pipe cleans can be attached to nodes and manhole surveys as well as to pipes.
Note: If a pipe is selected on the map to generate a pipe clean (either when the report is created - see below - or during the edit process) the pipe will be used in preference to nodes/manhole surveys. The pipe clean will have the geometry of the pipe. If a pipe clean is created from nodes/manhole surveys, these will be used and the pipe clean will be represented on the map by a straight line between these two nodes/manhole surveys.
Details are given about report creation on the map from pipes.
- Ensure the Map View is displayed.
- Select the form to use as a template for the new report in the Using Form dropdown list of the Reports group of the Map tab.
- In the Reports group of the Map tab, select Create from (or optionally a selection type from the dropdown list).
- Click on a pipe on the map.
The Select Map Object To Create... dialog is displayed.
- Select the desired pipe and click OK.
The Select Nodes dialog is displayed.
- Select the From and To node in the respective dropdown lists.
Alternatively, select <Ignore> for one or both dropdowns. This just determines the fields (Node ID flushing from and/or Node ID flushing to) that will get automatically filled in when the report is generated.
- Click OK.
The report is displayed with the fields corresponding to your selections automatically filled by InfoAsset Mobile.
- Fill in the report.
