Getting started

When the software has been installed, it can be run without any further configuration.

Starting

The installation process will have created an option in the Windows Start menu for running InfoWorks WS Pro. Selecting this option will load the program. Alternatively, if you have created an InfoWorks WS Pro icon on the desktop, double-clicking this icon will run the program.

The initial display consists of a single main window with a menu bar, a toolbar, and a workspace area that may be showing the Model Group window and other windows. See Tour of the workspace.

Licensing

When started, the system interrogates the applicable licence to check that InfoWorks WS Pro has a current licence. If it does not have a license, the software cannot be accessed and an appropriate message will be displayed. If a current licence is detected, the initial display, which consists of a single workspace, will appear.

If you are using an Autodesk-supplied licence and this is the first time you have started InfoWorks WS Pro since installing the software, or you have previously signed out via the Autodesk Account menu, an Autodesk Sign in window will be displayed. Sign in to your Autodesk account as described in the Sign in and out of Autodesk topic.

Creating or opening a database

If you are an administrator, you will be able to create a database. See Creating a new master database.

As an operator, you will be able to open an existing database. See Opening a master database.

Using model groups

Most users divide their database up into specific work areas by using model groups. You can open model groups and manage their contents using the Model Group window. See Opening a model group.

Importing network data

Network data can be imported from a variety of external sources. See Importing networks (overview).
