Exporting results to files

Results can be exported from any simulation to CSV files or to Swagman format files via the Results menu, or data can be exported to CSV files for a single timestep using the results versions of the Network grid view.

Results can also be exported to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet by generating a custom report. If you drag a custom report into a network with simulation results, an extra worksheet containing simulation results will be included in the Excel spreadsheet for each type of object.

The following are ways to improve the speed of the export:

Export using the menu option

  1. Select Results | Export to files.

This displays the Export Results Data Files dialog.

  2. Add one or more Simulations to the Sim box on the dialog.
  3. Add a selection list, or choose the current selection if you have a network open with selected objects.
  4. Enter or choose a directory where the files will be saved.

Open an existing directory by clicking the (Open) button.

The directory must already exist; to create a new directory, use Windows Explorer.

  5. Choose what type of file output you require, using the options in the lower half of the dialog.

Tip: To speed up the export of results, choose Group by time from the Group Results dropdown.

  6. To create the export files, click Produce Files.

Notes:

Export from the grid views

You can view replays of a simulation on the grid views. The simulation can be paused at any time and the data from one or more grid views can be saved to CSV files.

  1. Open a simulation for replay.

See Viewing replays of a simulation.

  2. Open the grid views you want to export from.
  3. Either pause the simulation during replay at an appropriate timestep using the button, or move the simulation to the timestep you want using the button on the Replay Toolbar.
  4. Select all the cells you want to export to a CSV file. You can also select entire rows or columns, or the entire grid
  5. Select Edit | Export to File.

This displays a standard Save As dialog.

  6. Choose where to save your CSV file, then click Save.

Test the IWLive Pro results export from the Export Style dialog

Closed

You can test the CSV export of results from IWLive Pro runs in InfoWorks WS Pro, via the Testing page of the Export Style dialog:

  1. Open the desired export style object.

The Export Style dialog is displayed.

  2. Open the Testing page.
  3. Drag and drop one or more simulations into the Sim box from the Explorer window or Model Group window.
  4. Optionally, drag and drop one or more warning templates into the Warning Template box from the Explorer window or Model Group window.

This step is required only if warnings are being exported.

  5. Click Test Export.
  6. An HTML log summarising options selected and files exported will be displayed.

If the export of time-varying data has being enabled, the log will contain details. Otherwise, it is empty.

    You can close the log.

The CSV files can be found in the location specified on the General page of the Export Style dialog.

  7. If required, click Save to commit the changes.
