About live data

Recorded field data, otherwise known as live data, can be:

InfoWorks WS Pro uses data files that have been downloaded from the data logger using methods supplied by the logger manufacturer. InfoWorks WS Pro supports several live data file formats. For further information on supported live data formats, refer to the Adding and Editing Live Data topic.

Logger data files are not directly imported by InfoWorks WS Pro. Potentially they are very large, and also you may need to use them with other packages. A live data configuration provides the link between InfoWorks WS Pro and one or more logger data files. Connections to the data files are viewed and edited in the Live Data grid.

A live data configuration is a version controlled itemVersion controlled items have an extra level of management within the InfoWorks database. These items can be checked in and out to create a series of versions of the same item. You can also create branches from any version. Only the differences between versions are stored in the database. Version controlled items can be locked to prevent accidental deletion. . See Managing version controlled objects.

Live data configuration files can be imported and exported from / to CSV files. The configuration files can also be imported and exported via the Open Data Import Centre and Open Data Export Centre.

Flag information included in the logger data file can be displayed when graphing live data. See the Live Data Flags topic for further information.

A live data configuration can also be used in grids, graphs, demand diagrams, demand area analysis and calibration simulations. Live data points can be logger flat files or live data feeds and are specified in the Live Data Point view. Telemetry feeds are defined in the Live Data Feeds view. Live data points are linked to the InfoWorks WS Pro model via the Live Data Point ID field of the control data for the appropriate network object.

The Live Data Logon and Live Data Feed views in the Live Data grid are used to specify connections to one or more telemetry databases containing data feeds for the area modelled by the network.

The Live Data Lookup view in the Live Data grid can be used to map external values from telemetry databases to internal values that will be interpreted by InfoWorks WS Pro and IWLive Pro.

The Live Data Export view is used to test from within InfoWorks WS Pro the export in IWLive Pro of simulation results, BalanceNet optimised pump schedules and PressureWatch results to external databases.

The Live Data Composite Feed view allows live data feeds to be combined into composite feeds. A number of primary feeds are combined by addition and subtraction, by using a multiplier factor. Interpolation is used if time steps do not coincide. The primary purpose of this feature is to combine demand flows that enter a DMA to produce a combined DMA demand. The combined DMA demand is then the basis of DemandWatch predictions.

About validating live data

To use a live data configuration in a baseline object, the live data must first be successfully validated.

Data from the Live Data Logon, Live Data Feed and Live Data Lookup tabs of a live data object can be updated using the Open Data Import Centre. This update is likely to be implemented using CSV files but other formats are available. Typing in this data by hand can be time-consuming and lead to typing errors. Import files can be used instead, making the process faster, more automatic and more reliable.

About comparing live data configuration objects

Live data configuration objects can be compared from the database tree displayed in the Model Group window or the Explorer window. See Comparing.
