Network Objects

A node represents a physical structure in the drainage system.

A link represents the physical connection between two nodes.

The main types of link available are:

• Conduits
• Ancillaries
• River Reaches (InfoWorks networks only)
• Bridges (InfoWorks networks only)
• River Channels (InfoWorks networks only)

Subcatchments represents the physical area from which a manhole or other inflow node collects water.

Polygon Objects provide a method for specifying a geographical area on the GeoPlan Window.

Network Results Polygon (2D) objects are used to interrogate results within a 2D mesh (InfoWorks networks only).

Lines are used:

• To geographically represent features such as walls and sections
• In the process of building a River Reach, a Bridge or an Inline Bank object (InfoWorks networks only)
• In the 2D meshing process

Network Results Line (2D) objects in InfoWorks are used to interrogate results within a 2D mesh.

The Point objects in an InfoWorks network are:

• General Points: used to store surveyed point data which can then be used to provide elevation data when Creating a TIN Ground Model
• 2D Point Sources: associated with a flow-time profile in an Inflow event to provide a point inflow into a 2D mesh
• Network Results Points: (1D and 2D) used to interrogate point results at a location in the network.
• Damage Receptors: used to represent a building/structure within a 2D mesh for the purpose of providing flooding information for use in Risk Analysis Runs.

In SWMM networks, the only Point object is a Rain Gage, which is associated with a rainfall profile from a rainfall event to provide a source of precipitation data for use in subcatchments or unit hydrograph groups.
